The 2006 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Protruck Champion had great expectations going into the Baja Protruck Cup at Glen Helen Raceway.
With the season’s most grueling event a victorious memory, Rick L. Johnson of Agave Motorsports hoped to continue his winning streak in the K&N Toyota Tundra Baja Protruck.
In dire contrast to the wide open spaces of the Baja peninsula, the Glen Helen event featured a different type of off-road racing challenges. The two hour race was on a 3-mile off road course in Devore, California.
“There was a lot of head-to-head racing and my front tire caught the edge of a big tractor tire,” said Johnson. “I broke the steering ram with only 15 minutes left in the race.”
Johnson uses K&N Engineering Products. “I went into Glen Helen hoping to bring K&N another championship weekend,” he said. “The truck ran great and our K&N Filter worked great. We were in first or second place when I broke the steering ram.”
Johnson finished 2nd overall in points for the 2006 Baja Protruck Series. In 2007, he plans to start the racing season with the Best in the Desert Parker 425 at Parker, Arizona.
